Some have not broken with officialdom, others are under lifetime censorship, still others voluntarily reject the government publishing system and what they term “official promotion.” They see themselves as post-Soviet, post-Castro, and outside the reading canon that insitutions have put forth as typically Cuban. Now the New York publishing house OR Books, has brought together in Cuba in Splinters nearly a dozen writers “who don’t claim to represent a generation,” says the book’s editor, anthologist and blogger Orlando Luis Pardo Lazo (OLPL), a resident of Pittsburgh for the last two years.
